Ok, for some reason I am running a little slow on understanding the theme topic. Could someone please explain what or give explains of what composition is or what you are looking for. thanks mike

Composition is basically how a scene is framed, including perspective, angle of view, DOF, etc. In simple terms, it can be the difference between a snapshot and a photograph.
For a brief intro to composition, visit our LEARN page: Rules of Composition
With this latest Theme topic, we're asking for photos that emphasize composition over subject matter. Try an unusual point-of-view, or use composition to make a statement. Be imaginative!

Thanks Mark,
I remember now after rereading what you suggested. For some reason my mind went blank. I do a lot of what was suggested in the article already and it was nice to review it again. I will see what I can come up with to submitt. Have a great day and again thanks for all the help and advice. michael

Glad I could refresh your memory, Michael.
I was wondering why you asked since your photos always exhibit very good composition

I was trying to figure what type of picture to enter the theme challege and got overwhelmed with it for some reason. Instead of just grabing the camera and see what I can see. I was thinking way too much and something started to burn between my ears. So this weekend I head off to the woods in search of peace and an entery to your contest. Have a good one and thanks. mike

Hi Mike,
The composition theme was my idea, which came to me after the last article I wrote "seeing." My intent was to push the thinking of our photographers here, hoping that they would step back and really examine how they're composing their shots. I feel that composition can be used in a very narrative way, and I was hoping to see more of that :)

HI Sarah,
I agree it is good to get the brain cells working and try to look at nature or the picture in waiting a new way. I know I try to do that everytime I pick up a camera. Since I have started taking pictures I do look at the world differently. It is too cool. As I stated before my mind went blank and I was confused. I am now back on track. Great idea and I am looking forward for more. Thanks michael
